My educational background includes a Master of Education in Counselling Psychology from UNB, a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Dalhousie University as well as a Diploma in Public Administration from UPEI. In 2017, I completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training, and IN 2019 became certified in Trauma Informed Yoga Therapy (TIYT™). TIYT™ is a method of teaching yoga that promotes improved self-regulation and symptom management for anxiety, trauma/PTSD, depression, addiction issues and more.
I began my private practice part-time in 2008 while working full-time as a Career Counsellor. Prior to counselling, I worked in health education and promotion at AIDS PEI, and previous to that I managed a school-age child care centre in Vancouver, BC.
My health promotion and counselling experience combined provide me with a comprehensive background for working with my clients from a more holistic perspective. Current trends in mental health and wellness recognize the mind-body connection, including practices such as mindfulness, meditation and yoga. In my practice, I combine elements of this holistic philosophy with traditional counselling methods emphasizing self-care, coping skills, and the development and maintenance of healthier ways of being. I also offer workshops for businesses and groups, and can tailor a workshop specifically to meet your needs (stress management, work-life balance, or some aspect mindfulness, etc.).
